Octavio A. Kalalo was elected to an unprecedented four-term president during the election held last June 15, 1985 at the Club Filipino. O. A. Kalalo assumed the helm of leadership of ASEP in preparation for the 25th founding anniversary of the Association.
1986-1990 Endorsement of NSCP Vol. 1, 3rd edition by Secretary of Public Works and Highways and was formally launched on September 27, 1986 at the Manila Hotel.
ASEP acquired its Headquarters at the New Manila Condominium located at N. Domingo St., Quezon City. The Headquarters was inaugurated last June 17, 1989 with Congresswoman Nikki Coseteng and Secretary Jose Mabanta as Sponsors.
Publication of the National Structural Code of the Philippines Vol. II, Bridges. It was formally launched on May 5, 1988.
Initiated the preparation of the National Structural Code Supplemental Reference in Low Cost Housing in connection with the Senate Committee on Housing chaired by Senator Jose Lina.
ASEP responded, within 24 hours after the devastating July 16, 1990 earthquake to the request of DPWH for Assistance in the structural inspection and rapid evaluation of buildings in Metro Manila.
1991-1995 ASEP’s National Structural Review Code was formed Sept. 1991.

The “Revised Civil Engineering Law of 1994”under the Chairmanship of PP/Dir Octavio “OA” Kalalo was passed both in the Congress and the Senate.
The ASEP Library was formally launched on June 10, 1994 at the Architectural Center Club, Inc. (ACCI).
ASEP likewise actively participated in the fact-finding investigation and technical review of the Makati Stock Exchange accident on November 30, 1993.
The ASEP Steel Handbook was launched on May 25, 1995 during the 6th International Structural Engineering Convention held at the Manila Midtown Hotel.
ASEP sent two teams to visit/inspect sites, which were hit by earthquakes in Kobe, Japan on January 17, 1995 and Oriental Mindoro on November 15, 1994.
ASEP is now an organizational member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI).
ASEP initiates the Disaster Quick Reaction Survey Teams (DQRST) for rapid and objective documentation and assessment of structural or geotechnical damage to buildings, bridges and other structures during disaster.
ASEP obtained the Copyright for the ASEP Steel Handbook on July 5, 1995, from the National Library. Said copyright is for life.
1996-2000 The Philippine Applied Technology Council (PATC) Committee was formed under the initiative of ASEP together with other engineering organizations in the Philippines such as PICE.
The NSCP Vol. II – Bridges, 1997 Edition was formally launched on March 4, 1998 at the Dusit Hotel Nikko.
To facilitate communication among members and other affiliates, the ASEP availed of the Internet service asep@compA.com.ph
The 1st National Symposium on Geotechnical Engineering was held on March 1999.
This term saw the ASEP’s acquisition of a new headquarters located at Unit 713 Future Point Plaza, 112 Panay Avenue in Quezon City. ASEP also has revitalized its home page www.aseponline.org and new service provider was enlisted for the new e-mail address asep@surfshop.net.ph
On September 21, 1999 an earthquake of magnitude 7.6 struck Taiwan. The Philippine government through the NDCC conveyed its sympathy to the people of Taiwan and offered humanitarian assistance through the TECO in Manila. In cooperation with the Office of Civil Defense, ASEP sent 19 structural engineers.
ASEP has come up with a recommended guidelines for Design Peer Review.
CAST 2000 was held last May 10-13, 2000.

The fifth edition of the National Structural Code of the Philippines, Volume I (NSCP C101-1) was launched during the annual PICE Convention last November 29-30, 2001.
ASEP established Regional Coordinating Committee in line with ASEP’s goal improving interaction and participation members based outside Metro Manila and to increase the membership from places from outlying regions in the country.
ASEP mourns the death of four-time Past President Octavio (OA) A. Kalalo on December 25, 2001.
A two day seminar / workshop in disaster quick response was held at Baguio City last August 24-24, 2001.
ASEP-PICE DQRP team flew to General Santos city last March 8, 2002 to inspect structures damaged by the earthquake that hit the region.
The conference on Safety and Reliability of Built Structures scheduled on June 21-22, 2002 was successfully held at the Manila Midtown Hotel, Pedro Gil St., Manila.
A two day symposium was organized by the ASEP-CPD Committee to discuss the provisions of the National Structural Code of the Philippines, 5th Edition held last March 1-2, 2002.
In line with OCD-ASEP-PICE program to train volunteers and be called upon in times of emergency, a seminar was held on June 14-15, 2002 at NIA, Quezon City.
A Symposium on the National Structural Code of the Philippines C101-01 has been conducted last January 16-17 at Kalibo, Aklan and March 27-28 at Naga City in Bicol in line with ASEP’s program to upgrade the knowledge of its members and other practicing Civil-Structural Engineers outside Metro Manila.
In support of the OCD-NDCC and the PICE, the DQRP Training for Trainors was conducted by ASEP at SBMA last June 27-28, 2003 as part of the PICE mid-year convention activities.
To further increase ASEP members’ awareness and knowledge of new and innovative materials, the association conducted the second ASEP forum on June 27, 2003.
The Asia conference on Earthquake Engineering scheduled on March 10-11, 2004 was successfully held at the Manila Midtown Hotel, Pedro Gil St., Manila. Almost 400 participants attended the conference.
A seminar on Optimal Network Arches for Road and Rail Bridges and LRFD method for Bridges was held on November 11, 2005.
2006 This year marks the next coming five productive years of the Association. Initially the publication of the National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP), Vol. II – Bridges has been accomplished. The holding of the ACEE 2006 proved to be a very successful one.
Training for DPWH volunteers regarding pre-disaster Assessment of buildings, especially government and school buildings.
Under the leadership of Pres. Joseph Ramil Ilagan Manalo, DQRP trainings of volunteer building evaluators were conducted together with PICE, OCD-NDCC at Cagayan de Oro City, Baguio City and cebu City.
Formation of the ASEP Task Force Milenyo to address issues and concerns regarding damages on various structures, especially billboards, brought about by this strong typhoon that hit Metro Manila.
Holding of various Continuing Professional Development lectures for Civil Engineering professors teaching Structural Engineering subjects from almost all Civil Engineering schools in the country.

Membership Card
The membership card of the Association is issued yearly upon payment of corresponding membership dues. The card contains the member’s name, membership grade, expiry date and member’s ID number at the rear portion of the card, the member and the current ASEP President must affix their corresponding signatures for the card to be valid. Any misuse or misrepresentation of the card shall not be allowed by the Association and may subject the member to penalty, disciplinary action, or expulsion from the Association.
The ID Number
There are three sets of numbers found in your Membership Card that represents the ASEP Membership number. The first batch of 4 digit numbers represents the year a member was admitted to the rank of Affiliate, Associate, Regular or fellow. The second set of 6 digit numbers represents the PRC number of the member, and the third batch of 5 digit number is the ASEP Membership Control number.
The membership Grade
The member’s rank is reflected in the card as AFILIATE MEMBER, AOCIATE MEMBER. REGULAR MEMBER and FLOW. Please refer to the Constitution and By-Laws for the criteria in each grade.
Validity of Card
The member shall enjoy all the privileges given by7 Association for a period reflected in the Membership Card. Card is valid until the end of June the following year is was issued except for life members. Expired Membership Cards cannot be used by the member to avail of such privileges. Card shall be renewed starting July 1 of each year and shall be valid until June 30 of the next year.
Fees and Dues
The member shall pay the corresponding membership fees and dues not later than the first week of July yearly. The amount of the annual membership fee is set by the current Board of Directors of the Association.
Attendance to CPD Seminars
The member shall be entitled to special privileges such as discounts to seminars offered by the Association. A member may enjoy a 10% discount on registration fee on any of the first module he wishes to attend. For the second module he attends. A 20% discount may be availed of and for the third, 30@%. For the fourth onwards, he gets 40% discount. These are over and above all other discounts gets by the Association, i.e., early registration. Said discounts are valid for active members only.

Module 4: Analysis and Design of RC/PC and Steel Bridges
Module 5: Theory, Practice and Development of Prestressed Concrete
Module 6: Analysis and Design of Foundations and Other Earth Structures
Module 7: New Provisions on Latest Codes of Practiced
Other modules may be developed by the CPD Committee as approved by the Board of Directors of the Association.
Discounts on Establishment
The Association is currently negotiation with various establishments to come up with Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) regarding discounts to members on merchandise and services availed on these establishments. Discounts may vary with each of the establishments. Please call the ASEP Secretariat or the respective establishments for further information. The membership card may be presented to such establishments to avail of said discounts.
Association Sports Tournament
Every year, The Association shall sponsor sports tournament to be participated in by members and other invited guests. Invited guest players may join through corporate-sponsored teams.
The ASEP Forum
The ASEP Forum is open for free to all members of good standing. Other guest may be accommodated if there are slots available. Members are given priority to attend through RSVP to the Secretariat.
ASEP Newsletter
The ASEP Newsletter is issued quarterly be the Association. Members may contribute articles to this newsletter of any topic the field of structural engineering and may also accept related articles that the editors will find beneficial to the members at large. The Editorial Board shall screen all the articles to be included in the various issues and may also revise a portion or reduce any portion of the article without prior notice to the contributor.
ASEP Library
The library is located at the ASEP Headquarters at Suite 713 Future Point Plaza Condominium, 112 Panay Ave., Quezon City. Members can borrow books and/or references according to the rules set by the library committee. Members need to present their membership card to avail of the library services and facilities.
ASEP Website
The member can access the homepage of the Association at http://www.aseponline.org. They can update their individual records on-line and browse through the activities of the Association on the web.
ASEP International Convention
The ASEP international convention is held in the Philippines every two years.
ASEP Souvenirs
The member may avail of discounted souvenirs items from ASEP such as T-shirts, nameplates, ID tags and necklace, pins, stickers, cups or mugs, caps, bags, personal organizer, folders and notepads, and many more.
