ASEP Through the Years: 1988-1990

1988-1989

  • Held the Induction of elected officers and directors for the year 1989-90 at the Manila Hotel on August 16, 1989. Secretary Miriam Defensor-Santiago was the Guest Speaker.

  • ASEP finally achieved its long-sought dream by acquiring its Headquarters at the New Manila Condominium located at N. Domingo St., Quezon City. The Headquarter was inaugurated last June 17, 1989 with Congresswoman Nikki Coseteng and Secretary Jose Mabanta as Sponsors.

  • Sponsored the ASEP 1989 Basketball Tournament, which was held at the Acropolis Sports Center from May to June. The tournament was won by Niagara International Construction Corp. The other participating teams were Foundation Specialists, Inc., DCCD Engineering Corp., TCGI Engineers, O.A. Kalalo & Associates and DPWH Bureau of Design.

  • The ASEP Continuing Education Programs went Region-wide by holding out-of-town Seminars at the Central Philippines University, Iloilo City, in association with PICE Iloilo Chapter and Colegio dela Purisima Concepcion, and the PICE Capiz Chapter.

  • Participated in the 6th Buildex "Building High in '89" where ASEP resource person spoke in Foundation, framing Concepts, Planning Coordination of High Rise Buildings.

  • Initiated the preparation of the National Structure Code Supplemental Reference in Low Cost Housing in connection with the Senate Committee on Housing chaired by Senator Jose Lina. Sustained the ASEP Continuing Education Seminars on various topics, which were held at the U.P. Transport Training Center.

1989-1990

  • The 4th International Convention was held at the Philippine Plaza Hotel with the theme: "Structural Engineering Challenges in the 90's." ASEP conducted an Out-of-town Seminar in Roxas City, Capiz in association with the PICE Capiz Chapter and PICE Makati Chapter. The seminar topics were broadened to include construction practices and methods. The seminar's resource speakers were ASEP President Ed Arrojado, Engrs. Engie De Gracia, Apeng Sison, Tito Aliling and Fidel Sarausad. The Committee on Structural Engineering Recognition chaired by Engr. H.P. Manzano formulated the criteria on the screening of candidates for recognition as Structural Engineer by the Professional regulation Commission Board of Civil Engineering and duly approved by the board.
