ASEP Through the Years: 1986-1988
1986-1987
- Second printing of the National Structural Code of the
Philippines Volume I, Third Edition. The reprint was done
on newsprint to reduce the cost to affordable level.
- Endorsement of NSCP Vol. I by PRC and Board of Examiner
on Civil Engineering. Second printing of "ASEP Handbook of
Steel Shapes and Section.
- ASEP accepted the invitation of the Construction Technology
program sponsored by the Construction Industry Authority
of the Philippines (CIAP). The objective of CIAP is to continuously
develop and upgrade Filipino technological capabilities and
enable the local construction industry to search the state
of self-sufficiency comparable with other Industrialized
Asian Countries.
- The National Steel Corporation donated P50, 000.00 to ASEP
for the preparation of the Handbook of Steel Shapes and Section,
then ASEP President Efren H. Sison acknowledge the grant
and formed the Steel Handbook Committee chaired by Hermenegildo
P. Manzano, Jr. The Handbook was launched by Undersecretary
Jose Mabanta at the Club Filipino in September, 1987.
- ASEP participated as one of the members of a joint committee
formed by the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA)
to study and formulate a document that will serve as a standard
guideline in hiring the services of Filipino and Foreign
Consultants for projects in the Philippines. O.A. Kalalo
as ASEP representative batted for nationalism in engineering
consultancy in the Philippines.
- ASEP participated as a cooperating Agency in the International
Showcase of Building materials, Construction System and technology
called: "Building Materials and Equipment Exhibition (BUILDEX)
at Philcite on April 22-28. A one-day seminar on "Special
Problems in Structural engineering" was also conducted with
Dr. Ernesto S. de Castro, Engrs. Romer Montoya, Jose Sy and
Fidel Sarausad as resource speakers.
1985-1986
- Endorsement of NSCP Vol. I, 3rd edition by Secretary of
Public Works and Highways.
- ASEP paid tribute to the Past President Angel Lazaro, Jr.
during the general membership meeting held at Club Filipino
last November 29, 1986.
- The ASEP Continuing Education Program went nationwide last
December 7, 1986 at Roxas City in a seminar on "Wind and
Earthquake Analysis of Structures", jointly sponsored with
the PICE Capiz Chapter.
- Started the regular quarterly publication of the ASEP Newsletter
to keep the general membership well informed on ASEP activities.
- The re-titled National Structural Code of the Philippines,
Vol. I Buildings, Towers and other vertical structures was
formally launched on September 27, 1986 at the Manila Hotel.
- Holding of the First international Convention on Structural
Engineering in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the
association at the Philippine Plaza Hotel on August 1 and
2, 1986. The theme of the convention was "25 Years of Progress
in Structural Engineering". The Overall convention chairman
was then President Efren H. Sison.
1987-1988
- ASEP paid tribute to Engr. O.A. Kalalo during the ASEP
Valentine Socials on February 12, 1988.
- Publication of the National Structural Code of the Philippines
Vol. II, Bridges.
- Dialogue with allied professional engineering professions
to come up with a Standard Schedule of Engineering fees for
various types of projects involving Architects.
- National Structural Code Vol. II was formally launched
on May 5, 1988.
