ASEP Through the Years: 1984-1986
1984-1985
- Octavio A. Kalalo was elected to an unprecedented fourth
termas president during the election held last June 15, 1985
at the Club Filipino. O.A. Kalalo assumed the helm of leadership
of ASEP in preparation for the 25th founding anniversary
of the Association. He formed the convention committee tasked
to organize the international Convention on structural Engineering
to be held the following year. The Silver Year of ASEP. The
Committee on the revision of the National Structural Code
for Building was also formed by ASEP President O.A. Kalalo
with Dr. Ernesto S. de Castro as Committee chairman.
- ASEP co-sponsored the International Ferro Cement Conference
held on January 1985 at the Asian Institute of Technology
in Bangkok, Thailand. ASEP was represented by ASEP President
Ernesto de Castro (1984-1985). Dr. Ernesto G. Tabujara, ASEP
Past President and convention speaker.
1985-1986
- Endorsement of NSCP Vol. I, 3rd edition by Secretary of
Public Works and Highways.
- ASEP paid tribute to the Past President Angel Lazaro, Jr.
during the general membership meeting held at Club Filipino
last November 29, 1986.
- The ASEP Continuing Education Program went nationwide last
December 7, 1986 at Roxas City in a seminar on "Wind and
Earthquake Analysis of Structures", jointly sponsored with
the PICE Capiz Chapter.
- Started the regular quarterly publication of the ASEP Newsletter
to keep the general membership well informed on ASEP activities.
- The re-titled National Structural Code of the Philippines,
Vol. I Buildings, Towers and other vertical structures was
formally launched on September 27, 1986 at the Manila Hotel.
- Holding of the First international Convention on Structural
Engineering in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the
association at the Philippine Plaza Hotel on August 1 and
2, 1986. The theme of the convention was "25 Years of Progress
in Structural Engineering". The Overall convention chairman
was then President Efren H. Sison.
