President's Address during 46th Anniversary
Warmest greetings to the members and friends of the ASEP on the occassion of our 46th Anniversary and Induction of the 2007-2008 Officers and Directors.
This year's thrust, ASEP aims for GREATNESS: Global Readiness in Engineering And Technology Needed to Enhance Strength and Stability.
The past few years have presented many opportunities to engineers to be involved in overseas work and outsourced projects. These opportunities necessitated that we bring our professional practice to a "global" level in terms of standards, codes of practice, technical know-how, production quality, and professional ethics. Locally, opportunities to work with foreign consultants, have also increased. There are also on-going initiatives to have an "open" engineering practice among accredited engineers of member countries of the ASEAN.
The influx of these opportunities indicates that Filipino structural engineers are coping with the demands. Coping however is miles away from Setting the Pace. ASEP endeavors to focus on activities which will help prepare our members in becoming a notch above other practitioners.
Among the activities lined up for this year, and consistent with our thrust, are CPD seminars, CPD's-on line, publication of references / dscussions on Codes of Practice other than the NSCP. Some time next year, we will be having our 2nd Concrete:Art, Science and Technology (CAST) Conference.
With these, I invite all members of ASEP to unite, to be more supportive, and to be more involved in all the ASEP activities. ASEP, after all, relies on the commitment of all its members in its pursuit of GREATNESS. Mabuhay ang ASEP.
